How to Know if you Have a Trojan Virus
Here’s how to know if you have a trojan virus on your computer. By doing so, you can make the needed steps to remove it and prevent further intrusion.
Reset your Password
If you can’t reset your password, contact your administrator or reset your password using the recovery option. If you don’t know how to do that, contact your system administrator or see ‘Forgot Password?’.
You may also be able to remove the Trojan virus if you find that you can log in. For more information on how to remove trojans from your computer, see the Norton Removal Tool page.
Use Anti-virus Software
If your computer is password-protected, be sure to log in before you install Norton AntiVirus software. In addition, if Norton AntiVirus is in before you log in, the software may not run correctly or be prevented from starting when you try to log in.
If you are not sure whether this is an actual virus infection, see ‘Real Trojan Virus vs. False Positive’ for more information on how to differentiate between a real infection and a false positive alert. You may also want to read about other types of security threats that can be detected by Norton AntiVirus software at ‘Threat Types’.
You can also use Norton Power Eraser to remove any stubborn infections that remain after running the full scan with Norton AntiVirus software, or if it does not run because of a conflict with other programs on your computer. After removing any infections found during this scan, restart your computer in Normal mode and run another full scan with Norton AntiVirus software.
Run a Full Scan with Your AV Software
Run a full scan with Norton AntiVirus software to ensure that the infection removal fully. To do this: Under ‘Maintenance’, click ‘Run full system scan’. Follow any instructions that appear on-screen.
After the scan is complete, restart your computer in Normal mode and then run another full system scan. If more infections are found during this second full system scan, follow these instructions again until there are no longer any infections found.
Repeat the Full Scan after Two Weeks
Run another full system scan in approximately two weeks (the exact amount of time depends on how often you use your computer). This will ensure early detection of any new infections.
Remember to run a full system scan whenever you notice problems with your PC or whenever installing software or downloading content from the Internet.
Change Passwords after Cleaning System
When no more infections are found, log in to your account and change your password immediately so that unauthorized access is prevented in the future.
Always be cautious about how your system runs and what you plug into your device. By being always alert, you can prevent long-term intrusion that can possibly widen the impact of an attack.
